Circular Walk from Christmas Common – Ridgeway Path – Ewelme Downs – Ewelme Park – Cookley Green – Dumble Dore – Watlington Hill Car Park

A circular walk on generally easy, undulating footpaths, following sections of the Ridgeway FP and Swans Way FP. Views across Oxfordshire Plain to the towns of Watlington, Wallingford and the village of Benson. Passing through Ewelme Park and the hamlet of Cookley Green.

Follow FP in direction of Ewelme Park at GR 674893. Follow FP to hamlet of Cookley Green GR 695902. Follow FP past Coates Farm GR 694909 continue on the FP and Rd Xing to GR 692922. Follow FP to Dumble Dore GR 698926. Follow road to GR 696930 and retrace FP back to car park ascending Watlington Hill. Finish.

Getting there from Aylesbury – Approx. 18.1 Miles: Follow the A413 from town centre via Stoke Mandeville, on to Little Kimble. Follow B4009 via Chinnor, Lewknor to Watlington. In the centre of Watlington take the Hill Road in the direction of Christmas Common. The car park is on the right hand side before reaching the crest some 1.5 miles from Watlington.

Getting There from Oxford – Approx. 17.3 Miles: Follow the A40 then M40 South to Junction 6 and then follow the B4009 in direction of Lewknor and on to Watlington. In the centre of Watlington take the Hill Road in the direction of Christmas Common. The car park is on the right hand side before reaching the crest some 1.5 miles from Watlington.

[li_item icon=””]Walks will normally take place on the second Sunday in the month. In some months, where there is an overriding event, the day may be changed.[/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]It helps the Organiser to know who is intending to turn up. Please make contact beforehand. [/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Grades of Walk are – Leisurely,   Moderate,   and Strenuous. If you are new to the group and to walking, start with a walk graded “Leisurely”, and build up. [/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Walkers are reminded that they attend walks at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Make sure you bring the appropriate gear for the conditions and adequate food and drink. Also make sure you have your medication and blood sugar meter handy. Especially on long walks, carry emergency provisions. [/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]A First Aid kit and additional glucose will be carried by an experienced member of the group. Please check your blood sugar at intervals on a walk.[/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Follow the Country Code. Respect, protect and enjoy the countryside. Take home your rubbish and bury any human waste. [/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Walks Leaders are responsible for keeping the group together and path finding. Please do not go ahead of the Leader. Always inform the Leader or back marker if you wish to leave the walk, however briefly. Always inform the Leader if you are feeling hypoglaecemic or if you believe another member of the group’s blood sugar is low. [/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]On public roads, take great care to walk in single file, facing oncoming traffic unless advised to do otherwise by the Leader.[/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Dogs will be allowed on walks at the discretion of the Leader. Please keep them on leads when there is stock about or on roads.[/li_item]
[li_item icon=””]Remove or cover up muddy boots when entering a pub or tearoom. Do not consume your own food or drink on the premises, including the garden without permission. (If you enter a pub to use the toilet, buy a drink.) [/li_item]
