Turville – Hambledon – Skirmett – Fingest – Turville

Start Time: Sunday 14 April 2019. Meet at 09.45 am for 10.00 am start.

Start and Finish: Car Park in Turville Village. Park near telephone box before the church GR 767911. Postcode for adjacent Bull & Butcher PH is RG9 6QU. Parking is free. This is a gentle walk set in the midst of the most beautiful Chiltern countryside. Three villages – Turville, Hambledon, and Fingest – are within easy walking distance of each other. Valleys, villages, hills, woods, and churches as well as a windmill, are part of this circuit. We visit two villages used for film and TV locations including Midsomer Murders, Vicar of Dibley, & Cobstone Mill used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 1968.

Difficulty: Moderate – 9 miles. A shorter walk  of 4.5 is available – park at the Stag & Huntsman PH  in Hambledon RG9 6RP. Parking is free. Please contact Walk Leader for further details.

Waypoints: Start : from GR 767911 at the lane just to left of church entrance, with Sleepy Cottage on the corner. Follow path to GR 765907 and branch left across field to stile, cross road and follow path uphill through trees to GR 767904. Keep left and follow path downhill to Poynatts Farm GR 773903. Follow road and pick up Chiltern Way via Colstrope Farm onward to Hambledon. This is the half way point for lunch and walkers wishing to do short walk. Car Park beyond Stag & Huntsman PH. Follow road out of Hambledon and follow towards Hutton Farm. Just before Hutton Farm GR 791872 turn left and follow for Rockwell End and St Katharines Retreat GR795895. Descend via lane and through wood to Skirmett GR 778899. Follow path to Fingest and St Bartholemews Church GR 776912. Follow Chiltern Way path between trees and head diagonally down fields around Turville Hill towards Turville and the village green –  Finish.

 

Getting there from Aylesbury – (Approx 20.4 miles): Take A41 followed by A413 signed to Amersham & follow for approx. 2 miles.  Take A4010 signed Wycombe and follow for 12 miles to A40 approaching Pedestal roundabout. Follow A40 signposted Oxford to Bolter End Lane 4 miles. Follow B482 for 3 miles signposted Fingest & Turville.   In Turville, look for the small car park beyond PH around the village church of St Mary the Virgin.

 Getting There from Oxford : (Approx 24 miles): Take A40 for 8.5 miles from Oxford to M40 at Junction 8. Follow M40 Southbound to Junction 5. Follow Ibstone Road on A40 for 1 mile signposted Stokenchurch. Follow Marlow Road B482 for 4 miles to Turville. In Turville, look for the small car park beyond PH around the village church of St Mary the Virgin.
