Dorchester-on-Thames is picturesque, with plenty of pubs and cafés. This gentle walk includes stretches along the Thames Path affording delightful and tranquil river views – interrupted only by geese (in flight and on the water) and the occasional pleasure boat. The steep climb up to Wittenham Clumps delivers magnificent views of the Oxfordshire countryside (this is optional – it is possible to sit out the climb at the foot of the mound and await the return of the rest of the party). We pass through the charming village of Little Wittenham and proceed to Long Wittenham along a stretch of quiet country road before re-joining the Thames Path. There are masses of wildflowers along the route, as well as butterflies and sparrowhawks hovering overhead. At the end of the walk there is a small tea hut selling delicious home-made ice creams.

Difficulty: Moderate – 9.5 miles (including Wittenham Clumps) with one steep climb. The village of Long Wittenham is a suitable mid-point with car parking for those walkers wishing to do a shorter walk (5 miles). Please contact Walk Leader for more details.
