Start Time: Sunday 13 June 2021. Meet at 09.45 am for 10.00 am start.

Start and Finish: Meet at High Street Car Park HP22 6DU. Parking is FREE on Sundays at the public car park in the middle of Wendover High Street between the Clock Tower and the roundabout with the London Road.  Parking is also available for a flat fee of £5.00 on Sundays at the APCOA Station Car Park, Pound Street, Wendover HP22 6BN. A lovely, varied circular walk that gets your heart rate up at the beginning with a steep climb up the Chiltern Escarpment into Wendover Woods.  There’s some beautiful scenery and delightful villages along the way, and the final stage follows the Chiltern Link before joining the Ridgeway back to Wendover.

Difficulty: Moderate –  approx. 9 miles. Shorter walk available (approx. 6 miles) – leave a car at the Cock & Rabbit Pub at the Lee, postcode HP16 9LZ.

Waypoints – Start: Wendover Town Centre to Boddington Hill to Hale Wood and onto Lording Wood. Pass The Old Swan PH, Swan Bottom to Lee Clump. The Lee to Kingsash and continue to pass Concord House, Boswells Farm and return to Wendover –Finish

Getting there from Aylesbury5.4 miles:  Head north-west on Car Park Ramp towards Exchange St/A41. Turn left onto Exchange St/A41. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Walton St/A413. At roundabout take the 1st exit onto Wendover Rd/A413, go through 1 roundabout & at next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Wendover Rd/B4009. At next roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto High Street. Arrive: Car Park, High Street, Wendover.

 Getting There from Oxford : 25 Miles:  From Headington Roundabout turn onto London Rd/A40. Merge onto A40/A418 via the slip road to Aylesbury/Thame/Birmingham/M40. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto London Rd/A40/A418. Continue to follow A418. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Tythrop Way/A4129. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Kingsey Rd/A4129 Princes Risborough. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Lower Icknield Way/B4009, continue onto Grove Ln, turn right onto Aylesbury Rd/Station Rd/A4010, turn left onto Ellesborough Road, then continue onto Pound Street and at roundabout continue straight onto High Street. Arrive: Car Park, High Street, Wendover.

Ridgeway and Vale Expeditions Walkers’ Code

  • Walks will normally take place on the second Sunday in the month. In some months, where there is an overriding event, the day may be changed.
  • It helps the Organiser to know who is intending to turn up. Please make contact beforehand.
  • Grades of Walk are – Leisurely,   Moderate,   and Strenuous. If you are new to the group and to walking, start with a walk graded “Leisurely”, and build up.
  • Walkers are reminded that they attend walks at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Make sure you bring the appropriate gear for the conditions and adequate food and drink. Also make sure you have your medication and blood sugar meter handy. Especially on long walks, carry emergency provisions.
  • A First Aid kit and additional glucose will be carried by an experienced member of the group. Please check your blood sugar at intervals on a walk.
  • Follow the Country Code. Respect, protect and enjoy the countryside. Take home your rubbish and bury any human waste.
  • Walks Leaders are responsible for keeping the group together and path finding. Please do not go ahead of the Leader. Always inform the Leader or back marker if you wish to leave the walk, however briefly. Always inform the Leader if you are feeling hypoglaecemic or if you believe another member of the group’s blood sugar is low.
  • On public roads, take great care to walk in single file, facing oncoming traffic unless advised to do otherwise by the Leader.
  • Dogs will be allowed on walks at the discretion of the Leader. Please keep them on leads when there is stock about or on roads.
  • Remove or cover up muddy boots when entering a pub or tearoom. Do not consume your own food or drink on the premises, including the garden without permission. (If you enter a pub to use the toilet, buy a drink.)
