Circular Walk Long Crendon – Chearsley – Long Crendon

Start Time: Sunday 1st December 2019. Meet at 09.45 am for 10.00 am start.

Start and Finish: Long Crendon – postcode HP18 9EE. Free parking is available either in the Public Car Park on the High Street in Long Crendon or in any of the side roads. Meet outside The Angel Restaurant, 47 Bicester Road.  This short circular walk takes us through the village of Long Crendon onto general flat and easy footpaths to Notley Abbey and onwards to the village of Chearsley. We take a route via Wombwell Farm before returning to Long Crendon. The plan is to return to Long Crendon for 12.30 – 12.45. in time to change into casual clothing and meet in the bar at The Angel Restaurant for drinks and Christmas Lunch.

Difficulty: Leisurely –  approx. 5.5 miles, with plenty of time for snacks and coffee etc.

Waypoints – Start: From The Angel Restaurant walk along Bicester Road towards Long Crendon village and at The Square car park follow the road to “The Court House” GR 698091.  Pass the church and follow the enclosed path to fields. Continue on marked path to Notley Abbey GR 716092. Pass Lenton Pond and cross the railway at GR 717099. Follow path to village of Chearsley. Pass the Bell PH and follow footpath to GR 712112, follow road and under railway GR 704115 to Wombwell’s Farm GR 699110. Take footpath to College Farm GR 698095, then follow waymarks back into Long Crendon and return to cars to get changed for lunch – Finish

Getting there from Aylesbury – (Approx. 11.5 miles): Leave Aylesbury on A418 Oxford Road in direction of Thame. At the outskirts of Thame take the B4011 to Long Crendon. Parking either near The Angel Restaurant or in any of the side streets around Long Crendon.

 Getting There from Oxford : (Approx. 16 miles):  A40 then A418 in the direction of Thame. At the outskirts of Thame take the B4011 to Long Crendon. Parking either near The Angel Restaurant or in any of the side streets around Long Crendon.

Ridgeway and Vale Expeditions Walkers’ Code

  • Walks will normally take place on the second Sunday in the month. In some months, where there is an overriding event, the day may be changed.
  • It helps the Organiser to know who is intending to turn up. Please make contact beforehand. 
  • Grades of Walk are – Leisurely,   Moderate,   and Strenuous. If you are new to the group and to walking, start with a walk graded “Leisurely”, and build up. 
  • Walkers are reminded that they attend walks at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Make sure you bring the appropriate gear for the conditions and adequate food and drink. Also make sure you have your medication and blood sugar meter handy. Especially on long walks, carry emergency provisions. 
  • A First Aid kit and additional glucose will be carried by an experienced member of the group. Please check your blood sugar at intervals on a walk.
  • Follow the Country Code. Respect, protect and enjoy the countryside. Take home your rubbish and bury any human waste. 
  • Walks Leaders are responsible for keeping the group together and path finding. Please do not go ahead of the Leader. Always inform the Leader or back marker if you wish to leave the walk, however briefly. Always inform the Leader if you are feeling hypoglaecemic or if you believe another member of the group’s blood sugar is low. 
  • On public roads, take great care to walk in single file, facing oncoming traffic unless advised to do otherwise by the Leader.
  • Dogs will be allowed on walks at the discretion of the Leader. Please keep them on leads when there is stock about or on roads.
  • Remove or cover up muddy boots when entering a pub or tearoom. Do not consume your own food or drink on the premises, including the garden without permission. (If you enter a pub to use the toilet, buy a drink.)
