Beckley – Noke – Islip – Weston-on-the-Green – Kirtlington

OS Map Sheet Sheet 1: 25,000 OS Explorer Series Sheet 180 Oxford, Witney & Woodstock

Start Time: Sunday 9th September 2018. Meet at 09.45 am for 10.00 am start. Please note that we meet at the end of the walk at the Village Hall, Kirtlington postcode OX5 3HJ in order to transfer to the start.

Start: having transferred by car from Kirtlington, we start the walk outside the Abingdon Arms PH in Beckley (postcode OX3 9UU). Parking in the street is free (please do not park in the Pub car park). The walk is linear from Beckley to Kirtlington, so we will all meet at the end point and transfer to the start in a few of the cars, leaving at least one to enable the drivers to be ferried back to the start. This is a delightful walk that passes through historic villages and open countryside with some wonderful views.

Difficulty: Moderate – 9.5 miles. Paths are in moderate condition, firm underfoot and with very few nettles or difficult undergrowth. On several occasions we have to yomp across freshly prepared fields where the path has been erased by ploughing – but surface is not difficult.  A shorter walk option is available, finishing at Weston on the Green (circa 6.8 miles). Those wishing to take the shorter option should initially meet at the start point (Kirtlington) and then arrange to move a car  to the Chequers PH at Weston-on-the-Green, postcode OX25 3QH – where there is a large car park through which the walk actually passes. For any further information please contact Walk Leader.
