Start Time: Sunday 10th April 2022. Meet at 09.45 am for 10.00 am start.

Start and Finish: Car park behind Catherine Wheel pub off Station Lane GR 599806 Postcode RG8 9HB.  Please note: Pay and Display parking even on Sundays @ £2.20 for five hours. Sat/Sun free parking in streets near station.

This is a superb walk following the River Thames and chalk uplands around Goring. For short walk option leave a car at car park on B4741 – St John the Baptist church, Whitchurch Hill GR 637788 Postcode RG8 7PA.


Difficulty:
Easy/moderate 11.4 kilometres or shorter option. For those opting to take a shorter walk of 6.5 kilometres, arrange to leave leave a car at car park on B4741 – St John the Baptist church, Whitchurch Hill GR 637788 Postcode RG8 7PA.

Getting there from Aylesburyapprox 31.0 miles : Follow signs for A418 to Thame. At main roundabout take A329 to Shillingford & Wallingford and stay on the A329 to Streatley. At the Black Bull PH turn left over the River Thames and into Goring. Turn right into Station Road, the car park is off Station Road at the rear of The Catherine Wheel PH postcode RG8 9HB.

Getting There from Oxford : approx 19.0 miles : Take A34 Southbound – leave A34 at junction for Didcot & Harwell. Follow A417 via Blewbury to Streatley. At the Black Bull PH turn left over the River Thames and into Goring.  Turn right into Station Road, the car park is off Station Road at the rear of The Catherine Wheel PH,  postcode RG8 9HB.

Waypoints – Start: from Catherine Wheel PH car park, walk along Station Road past The John Barleycorn PH on through the Parish Church of St Thomas of Canterbury and pick up the River Thames heading South. Follow the National Trail FP under the railway bridge, past Gatehampton Manor to GR 616795, turn north and gently climb up the scarp slope with great views across the Thames. At GR 630794 turn south onto path past Combe End Farm.  At GR 634789 pause to say farewell to those doing short walk (mid-point parking at church is 400 m east from here) and turn north to Cold Harbour. Follow FP via Great Chalk Wood to GR 615805 and onward to Goring via Railway Station and village Centre to car park – Finish .
